Archived Press ReleasesPink Singers Summer Concert 2006Brahms to BroadwayA harmoniously eclectic evening of music,
Firmly established as the oldest and one of the best-known lesbian and gay choirs in Europe, the Pink Singers return to Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music for a full concert showcasing their vocal talents. There are relatively few choirs who can successfully combine such a wide range of musical styles into one evening and this concert is no exception, with a diverse repertoire encompassing everything from the Medieval English lullaby to the showstopping gay pop anthem, with Brahms, Billy Joel and Barbara Streisand amongst the many other delights on offer. The evening will include some solo performances from choir members, and a little choreography for good measure. You'd be a semi-quaver short of a crotchet not to lend the Pink Singers your support! 'Brahms to Broadway' is one of the first performances in the Europride Festival Fortnight, in which UK gay choirs feature prominently this year. It also marks the start of the Pink Singers summer season, with a number of performances planned in June and July - keep an eye on www.pinksingers.co.uk for further details. The performance will be BSL-interpreted by Steve Hudson. The Pink Singers in concert, with special guests, the London Gay Men's Chorus and the Rainbow Voices,
at Duke's Hall, Marylebone Road, London NW1. Europe's oldest gay choir, the Pink Singers were formed in 1983 by gay cabaret activist Mark Bunyan and the late Brian Kennedy, gay journalist, publisher and activist, to sing at that year's Gay Pride Festival. The Pink Singers have been featured on radio and TV, have performed throughout the UK, Europe and America and even backed Bronski Beat on their first album. On January 21st 2006, Duke's Hall will be playing host to the cream of the UK's queer choral talent as the Pink Singers are joined by special guests the London Gay Men's Chorus and Birmingham's Rainbow Voices. The programme will include something for everyone, from classical pieces by Bruckner and Morten Lauridsen to a high camp, choreographed version of Tragedy, plus the first performance of two pieces arranged especially for the Pink Singers: Kirsty MacColl's They Don't Know and a Madness Medley - Sheer Madness. For those who've never seen the Pinkies perform, expect soaring vocals, witty arrangements and the odd knowing wink. The concert will be BSL-interpreted for the deaf and hearing-impaired by Steve Hudson. |
