There were many rumours swirling in the lead up to the 2012 Pride London march. The pressure was on because it was also World Pride in London and we had guests from all across the globe. We heard that the march was to be scaled back, and that there were to be no floats; could Pride survive?
The answer is a resounding ‘yes!’ We can’t speak for everyone, but this Pride was one of the best in recent memory that the Pinkies have marched at. It rained intermittently, even heavily, but that didn’t dampen our spirits as we walked, singing songs from past seasons as well as music from our current repertoire. It was genuinely enjoyable, made all the better by a real sense of solidarity from the LGBT community facing the odds together.
We supported the Kaleidoscope trust and all the great work they do helping LGBT communities across the commonwealth and globally. The video above is just a sample of what we saw on our way around central London. Everyone who came along on Saturday should feel proud – well done for keeping the spirit alive!
Although Pride is over, keep celebrating at the Pink Singers’ summer concert on Saturday 14 July 2012. Get your tickets right here!
