New Pinkie’s view – Tim

I’ve just finished my first season with the Pink Singers and wow what an action packed and fun season it was.
Joining a choir was something that I had been thinking about doing for a long time but had never actually done anything about. I’d been a bit musical in my youth – playing in a brass band, singing in a choir and camping in up in the school musical! So on one of those quiet ‘surfing’ days (you know the ones!) I came across the Pink Singers website and thought why not? I dropped them a line and waited to see what would happen.
The new members’ contact soon got back to me and I found myself nervously going along to a rehearsal on a Sunday afternoon in Baker Street. I say nervously but in reality I had nothing to be nervous about. You don’t have to audition to become a member – just a quick voice check to make sure you’re singing in the right section for your voice. On my first rehearsal I joined the basses and was warmly welcomed by them all. After the rehearsal I had a quick voice check with Michael – again absolutely nothing to worry about- and I was soon no longer a bass but a tenor! Continue reading “New Pinkie’s view – Tim”

Europride Parade 2006

KayOn the hot and sunny morning of the 1st of July, the Pinkies gathered in Baker Street. Resplendent in our black polo shirts, we were ready to step out in style for the EuroPride Parade 2006.
As with all Pinkie events, there was an initial period of milling about and chatting while we waited for things to get going. This allowed plenty of time for Hsien and Liang to prepare their array of multimedia recording devices. It also gave Jonathan a chance to show off his improved conversational Swedish in a light-hearted discussion with Nathalina.

Newspaper Launch Party

NathalinaLast Wednesday the 28th of June 2006, we got together to perform and entertain at the launch of a new gay newspaper called the Pink News. After rushing to get to the Law Society in time we did a really good performance, singing our hearts out to, as I understand, a very influential audience. Singing Sheer Madness is always fun (I don’t think I will ever get tired of singing that!), even though we sang in two rows instead of the usual four, and I ended up all confused about the moves as I wasn’t standing in my usual place. Angels sounded great even without Mladen’s conducting and Tragedy is always a hit with the moves and everything.

Pinkie spotlight – Susannah

Susannah

My name is Susannah Colgate.
My section is Altos.
I joined the Pink Singers in September 2000.
I joined the Pink Singers because I love singing and I was single and thought it would be a good way to meet a new partner. I haven’t met the love of my life through the choir (yet!) but I’ve had a fantastic time and made some great friends.
My favourite thing about being a Pinkie is singing such a variety of pieces and the socialiasing – I’ve had far too many Monday morning hangovers from going to the pub after rehersals. I have also really enjoyed the trips – especially Paris 2005.
When I’m not rehearsing you can find me working as a a Housing officer dealing with such lovely things as anti-social behaviour cases, socialising with friends and doing voluntary work with “The Life Training Programme” – they do fantastic personal development courses which I see make a massive difference to people’s lives.
The song that I would most like us to perform is Carmina Burana.
The song in our repertoire which should be laid to rest is When You Tell Me That You Love Me – only because we’ve sung it so many times!

The excitement was palpable arriving at the Queen Elizabeth Hall last Monday night the 26th of June 2006 for the EuroPride Sings concert. The event was organised as part of the EuroPride celebrations with the key aim of celebrating the joy of singing and song while promoting the holistic vision of the Festival organisers that singing contributes to a healthy life style and a diverse society.
