Hello Pinkies. Hope you’ve all enjoyed your summer break. While you’ve been off sunning your bones the Various Voices 09 team have huddled together again to work out how to make the festival in London the biggest and best it can be. This latest meeting was a touch smaller than the first with not a huge amount to report back on unfortunately. We’re still waiting for everyone to reply to the skills questionnaire so we can work out who is going to organise what. This should get moving at the next meeting.

To Leeds with Gay Abandon
I felt rather sorry for the people who had to share the train carriage with us on the 15th of July 2006. The Pinkies were on our way to Leeds and had pretty much taken over a whole carriage on the train. I fell asleep for a bit and was woken by the melodious sound of people practising their parts for Catch a Falling Star.

New Pinkie’s view – Tim
I’ve just finished my first season with the Pink Singers and wow what an action packed and fun season it was.
Joining a choir was something that I had been thinking about doing for a long time but had never actually done anything about. I’d been a bit musical in my youth – playing in a brass band, singing in a choir and camping in up in the school musical! So on one of those quiet ‘surfing’ days (you know the ones!) I came across the Pink Singers website and thought why not? I dropped them a line and waited to see what would happen.
The new members’ contact soon got back to me and I found myself nervously going along to a rehearsal on a Sunday afternoon in Baker Street. I say nervously but in reality I had nothing to be nervous about. You don’t have to audition to become a member – just a quick voice check to make sure you’re singing in the right section for your voice. On my first rehearsal I joined the basses and was warmly welcomed by them all. After the rehearsal I had a quick voice check with Michael – again absolutely nothing to worry about- and I was soon no longer a bass but a tenor! Continue reading “New Pinkie’s view – Tim”
Europride Parade 2006
On the hot and sunny morning of the 1st of July, the Pinkies gathered in Baker Street. Resplendent in our black polo shirts, we were ready to step out in style for the EuroPride Parade 2006.
As with all Pinkie events, there was an initial period of milling about and chatting while we waited for things to get going. This allowed plenty of time for Hsien and Liang to prepare their array of multimedia recording devices. It also gave Jonathan a chance to show off his improved conversational Swedish in a light-hearted discussion with Nathalina.

Newspaper Launch Party
Last Wednesday the 28th of June 2006, we got together to perform and entertain at the launch of a new gay newspaper called the Pink News. After rushing to get to the Law Society in time we did a really good performance, singing our hearts out to, as I understand, a very influential audience. Singing Sheer Madness is always fun (I don’t think I will ever get tired of singing that!), even though we sang in two rows instead of the usual four, and I ended up all confused about the moves as I wasn’t standing in my usual place. Angels sounded great even without Mladen’s conducting and Tragedy is always a hit with the moves and everything.
