Unless you’ve spent your waking hours under a rock the last few weeks, you will have noticed several videos on YouTube bearing the tag “It Gets Better”. The It Gets Better project is the brainchild of Dan Savage, who noticed that in the last month several bullied gay teenagers have taken their own lives. These children are often isolated and have no-one to turn to: their teachers may be uninterested, their parents may be unhearing and their friends may be uncaring. That’s why he started this project: to encourage ordinary people to let these young men and women know that no matter how dark it may seem, things will work out right, and happiness is just round the corner. It gets better.
Yesterday some of the Pink Singers got together to record a little video as our choir’s contribution to this project, and you can see it here.
We are the Pink Singers, and we’re here to say, “It gets better!”

It gets better!
Apparently, the last time the Pink Singers appeared on the Joel Kafetz show turned out to be one of the most popular episodes ever. This wasn’t just down to us of course, but all the other LGBT choirs who took part.
Because of this Joel decided to give it a second whirl, and this time our own Johnathon picked up the microphone. He spoke for over 15 minutes on topics covering everything from what the Pinkies are doing next, to what it means to be in a choir, to how hard it can be coming out.
More topically, the discussion also turned to the recent spate of gay teen suicides in the U.S. of A and the work of the It Gets Better Project. A magical evening at Kettner’s
“It was the most magical evening, made all the more extraordinary by the fabulous Pink Singers” said actor Martin Parr after his birthday bash at Kettner’s restaurant in the heart of Soho.
“Everyone performed with such heart and gusto and professionalism,” he added. “I was utterly taken aback by the standard, the humour and joy of it all.” Martin said he received many messages saying what a huge hit the Pink Singers were.
And it was a memorable night out for Pink Singers tenor Simon Harrison. “After two fine years of choir action I was taking part in my first small group performance – and picked the right time to lose my cherry. After the long summer break it was sheer vocal heaven to be back in the bosom of the choir and doing what we do best – sing!

Pride Run 2010
We’re celebrating the Pink Singers’ third year running (rather than just marching) with Pride at the London Pride Run 2010. For those of you who have been to a Pride Run before, you will know that it has a great atmosphere and is a huge amount of fun, but more than that we’ll be helping to raise funds for the London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard.
This year Team Pinkies be debuting our new Pinkies running T-shirts as well, so there’s even more reason to come down and give us a supportive cheer. You could even run yourself, just make sure you register soon! Remember to give us a wave if you see us around Victoria Park on Saturday, 14 August 2010.

Welcome to our new website
Hello to all the Pinkies and friends, and welcome to the latest incarnation of our website. We have been aiming to update the website for quite some time, and we have brought our website up to date and into the 2010’s.
There have been some major changes since the old website, and there has been a large focus this time around on integrating our site with other social applications such as twitter, facebook and myspace (web 2.0, for the techies out there).
